About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Automotive Inspector to join our team at the Ohio Department of Public Safety - Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting motor vehicles to ensure compliance with state safety regulations. This includes conducting thorough inspections of vehicles, identifying potential safety hazards, and providing recommendations for repairs or adjustments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct motor vehicle inspections to identify safety hazards and ensure compliance with state regulations
  • Enter and retrieve information from various databases, including the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) database
  • Complete inspection forms and affix inspection decals to vehicles that pass inspection
  • Operate state-owned motor vehicle inspection vehicles to transport equipment used in inspections
  • Set up inspection sites, including placing safety control signs, cones, and equipment in position
  • Conduct inspections of driving schools and prepare necessary forms
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • 6 months of training or experience in automotive maintenance and repair, or mechanical vehicle inspections
  • 6 months of experience utilizing personal computers and associated business office applications, including Microsoft Office
  • Formal education in arithmetic, including addition and subtraction, and reading, writing, and speaking common English vocabulary
  • A valid driver's license
