About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Chemical Formulations Developer to join our Research & Development team at Red Spot Paint & Varnish Company, Inc. in Evansville, IN.

The main purpose of this position is to develop, modify and/or improve coatings for automotive and non-automotive applications, including primers, basecoats, topcoats, and clearcoats.

Responsibilities

  • Formulation and Development: Develop and formulate coatings using knowledge of chemistry and materials science.
  • Experimentation and Analysis: Conduct laboratory experiments to optimize formulations for performance, durability, and cost-effectiveness, and analyze and interpret test data to make recommendations for adjustments to formulations as needed.
  • Collaboration and Documentation: Collaborate with internal teams to transfer products from laboratory scale to production, and document and record research findings and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related science discipline with at least two intermediates to advanced chemistry laboratory courses or laboratory research experience.
  • 0 - 5+ years coatings experience.
  • Ability to problem solve on coatings projects and issues and adequately communicate with supervisors.
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to apply basic statistical techniques, and excellent computer skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, effective oral/written communication skills, and ability to organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner.
