Overview:


The Nuclear Medicine Technologist at Ellis Medicine operates under the general oversight of the Director of Radiology and Radiologists. This role involves the use of radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals to conduct or assist in diagnostic examinations, which include imaging of organs and organ systems, dynamic studies, and assays of body fluids and tissues.


Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and hold certification from either the ARRT or N.M.T.C.B. in Nuclear Medicine Technology. Prior experience in the field of Nuclear Medicine is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare precise dosages of radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic procedures, calculating the necessary amount and volume based on age, weight, and examination requirements.
  • Administer radiopharmaceutical doses to patients undergoing nuclear medicine procedures, either intravenously (where legally permitted), orally, or by inhalation.
  • Greet patients and explain the procedures to ensure cooperation and alleviate any anxieties. Document observations that may provide additional context for test evaluations, such as pregnancy, prior surgeries, or medications.
  • Operate imaging equipment and related accessories for routine studies, setting up devices according to established protocols. Perform standard nuclear medicine imaging procedures, assisting patients in achieving the required anatomical positions and adjusting equipment accordingly.
  • Communicate physicians' interpretations of tests to designated hospital personnel when necessary. Schedule patients for nuclear medicine examinations in the absence of administrative support. Assist in maintaining an up-to-date inventory of laboratory supplies and coordinate orders with supervisors.
  • Conduct quality control procedures on all instruments, ensuring proper functionality through uniformity and resolution tests. Maintain logs of instrument status and results.
  • Perform venipuncture when required, separate blood components, and store specimens appropriately.
  • Provide accurate instructions to nurses and outpatients regarding specimen collections.
  • Receive and inspect all radionuclide shipments for contamination, adhering to radiation safety regulations. Manage tasks related to the processing, distribution, and storage of radioactive materials, ensuring compliance with departmental and federal regulations.
  • Follow policies outlined in the Exposure Control Manual regarding universal precautions, disposal of sharps, and cleanup procedures for blood and body fluid spills.
  • Utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment when performing tasks associated with potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
  • Demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills to provide care tailored to the physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs of patients across various age groups.

Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $38.59-$57.89 per hour, based on experience, skills, and education. Pay may vary within this range depending on location.
