Purpose Statement

The role of Custodial Assistant is essential for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position involves arranging furniture and equipment for various activities and minimizing potential property damage and liability risks.

This role reports to the Head Adult Sweeper/Lead Night Custodian.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organizes furniture and equipment to ensure proper setup for meetings, classroom activities, and special events.
  • Secures facilities and grounds to prevent property damage and equipment loss.
  • Participates in training sessions (e.g., floor care, first aid) to stay informed on best practices.
  • Cleans designated school facilities (e.g., classrooms, offices, gymnasiums, multipurpose rooms) to uphold a sanitary and attractive atmosphere.
  • Performs various custodial tasks as needed to maintain a safe and appealing environment.
  • Completes additional related duties as assigned to support the effective operation of the work unit.
  • Reports incidents of vandalism, damage, or other issues requiring attention to ensure prompt resolution.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Skills: Ability to perform tasks independently while occasionally updating skills to adapt to changing job conditions. Key competencies include adherence to safety practices and operation of custodial equipment.
  • Knowledge: Basic math skills, including calculations with fractions and percentages; ability to understand written procedures, write routine documents, and communicate clearly; and follow multi-step instructions. Knowledge of industrial cleaning methods and safety protocols is essential.
  • Ability: Capable of scheduling activities, compiling data, and using job-related equipment. Flexibility to collaborate with others and operate equipment using standardized methods is required. Must demonstrate attention to detail, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks effectively. Regular and reliable attendance is essential.
Working Environment

The typical methods of performing the job require physical demands such as significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling, along with some climbing and balancing. Frequent bending, kneeling, and crawling are also necessary. The job involves approximately 10% sitting, 60% walking, and 30% standing, and is conducted in a generally hazard-free environment.
