Job Summary
This opportunity qualifies for a J-1 Waiver. A psychiatrist specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of mental, addictive, and emotional disorders such as schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance-related disorders, sexual disorders, gender dysphoria, and adjustment disorders.
The psychiatrist is able to understand the biological, psychological, and social components of illness and, therefore, is uniquely prepared to treat the whole person.
The main form of treatment used by a psychiatrist is psychopharmacology. A psychiatrist is qualified to order diagnostic laboratory tests and to prescribe medications, evaluate and treat psychological and interpersonal problems, and to intervene with families who are coping with stress, crises, and other problems in living.
Job Duties
CommunityCare is an FQHC look-alike whose mission is to improve the health status of our community by providing comprehensive, high-quality health care regardless of an individual's ability to pay.
This position will help lead and develop a behavioral health care team within CommunityCare. This person will work in conjunction with and be supported by a large local health system.
He/she will work with CommunityCare leadership to develop programs to improve the delivery of behavioral health services to the community.
- Interviews patients to obtain information such as symptoms, medical histories, and family histories.
- Performs and/or interprets diagnostic tests as needed.
- Diagnose and design a plan of treatment for injuries and/or illness. May prescribe or administer medications.
- Prepares, maintains, and reviews records that include patients' histories, examination findings, treatment plans, or outcomes.
