The Central Business Office is pleased to announce a Full-Time opportunity for a Healthcare Billing Specialist to work remotely. The Healthcare Billing Specialist is responsible for compiling amounts owed to the medical facility and maintaining organized records of orders, invoices, and payments.

This role involves assisting patients, insurance providers, and laboratories with inquiries related to billing matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review records for patient details, insurance data, service descriptions, diagnosis codes, and managed care authorization requirements, ensuring necessary corrections are coordinated.
  • Generate daily appointment voucher reports and reconcile all vouchers accordingly.
  • Input, review, and retrieve patient account information from the system, ensuring accuracy at all times.
  • Submit completed batches to the appropriate billing offices on a daily basis.
  • Regularly follow up on submitted claims to monitor payment statuses.
  • Transmit coded patient treatment information to payers and other relevant parties.
  • Coordinate insurance reimbursements with healthcare providers.
  • Adhere to university and departmental policies and procedures while safeguarding university assets.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
  • General knowledge of office procedures and operations.
  • Proficiency in data entry with minimal errors.
  • Effective communication skills in both oral and written forms.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow instructions accurately.
  • Attention to detail and skill in completing assignments with precision.

Department Specific Functions:

  • Timely review and release of all physician charges from assigned work queues.
  • Examine encounters received for all pertinent information including patient demographics, guarantor and insurance details, place of service, referrals, claim information, and managed care authorization requirements.
  • Conduct insurance eligibility checks and rectify registration issues.
  • Manually enter paper vouchers for any missing charges.
  • Identify and correct erroneous or rejected charges.
  • Distribute credits from patient payments as necessary.
  • Assign charges to appropriate cases and phases.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
