This position, represented by the UAW, involves the following responsibilities:
- Operate military vehicles, such as Abrams Tanks, on a designated course, assessing performance in various gears. Evaluate braking, steering, oil pressure, and other operational characteristics during test drives.
- Conduct comprehensive functional inspections of key guidance and control systems, telemetry, and testing instruments.
- Utilize blueprints, schematic diagrams, and specifications to perform testing with various electrical and electronic devices, including frequency counters and oscilloscopes.
- Document test results and compile necessary data.
- Transport military vehicles to and from storage or loading zones.
- Prepare vehicles for shipping as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness in the immediate work area.
Under special circumstances, may be tasked with general cleaning duties within the department, although this does not include routine cleaning responsibilities.
- Perform pre- and post-operation safety checks on equipment.
- Ensure adherence to written instructions, which may include operational sheets or quality assurance guidelines.
- Complete administrative tasks associated with the role.
- Must be a U.S. citizen as defined by ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations).
- Successfully pass a vetting process for unescorted access to facilities.
- Minimum age of 18 and possession of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
- Fulfill pre-employment requirements, including background checks, medical evaluations, and drug screenings.
- Maintain a valid state-issued driver's license and obtain a plant driver's license for military vehicle operation.
- Pass skills assessments, including vision and physical tests, which may involve respirator clearance.
- Meet Anthropometric Size Requirements (ASR) for vehicle entry.
- Interpret blueprints and related documents for part installation.
- Understand operational sheets and quality assurance directives.
- Comply with safety checks for equipment operations.
- This role may involve working in confined spaces within military vehicles.
- Utilize military vehicle scopes and periscopes, which may limit visibility and create a sense of enclosure.
Work Environment
Ability to thrive in a production setting, which includes:
- Lifting and handling components weighing up to 40 lbs.
- Climbing ladders and accessing vehicle structures.
- Walking and standing on uneven surfaces.
- Working in overhead and prone positions.
- Operating at heights and in confined spaces.
- Bending, kneeling, and twisting as necessary.
- Exposure to dust, fumes, oils, and high noise levels.
- Using various hand tools, including wrenches and grinding tools.
- Potential for overtime and off-shift work.
- Working in extreme temperatures and inclement weather.
- Mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
