Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Part-Time Shift Supervisor to join our team at IU Dining and Hospitality. As a Part-Time Shift Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a campus café, campus store, or dining hall, ensuring a high level of customer service and food quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the distribution of labor in the dining unit, train part-time dining staff, and monitor the quality of product and services.
  • Responsible for opening and closing the facility as needed, working under the direct supervision of the dining unit management team and certified sous chef.
  • Coordinate the placement of part-time staff, train entry-level staff in the performance of their jobs and duties, and ensure proper sanitation procedures, serving methods, and customer service standards are followed.
  • Monitor work performance of part-time staff for quality, accuracy, and completeness, and work to promote part-time employee development and growth.
  • Assist with the opening and/or closing of the dining services operation, including the placement or release of staff, opening or closing of POS stations, and proper facility cleaning procedures.
Requirements
  • General knowledge at the high school level.
  • Experience as an IU Dining part-time employee for 10 consecutive weeks from date of hire or comparable experience outside of IU dining.
  • Food Safety (ServSafe Food Handler) certification within 180 days from date of hire.
Working Conditions

This position requires tasks typically associated with back-of-the-house food service work and cleaning/ware washing. It involves periods of both sedentary work and times of frequent movement about the workspace. Using commercial kitchen equipment and tools, moving supplies weighing from 20-50 pounds, and effective communication skills are necessary.

The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception.

This role also will work indoors around both hot and cold temperatures and loud noises.

This role involves handling meat and plant-based food products as well as a variety of ingredients that may include some or all of the top 9 allergens in the preparation of menu items and during the course of cleaning and ware-washing tasks.

The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
