Sleep Disorders Specialist

As a Sleep Disorders Specialist at Bon Secours, you will play a critical role in diagnosing and treating patients with sleep disorders. Your expertise in polysomnography and EEG will enable you to perform diagnostic testing and provide high-quality patient care. You will work closely with our team to ensure that patients receive the best possible treatment and support.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform diagnostic testing for sleep disorders, including Home Sleep Studies, Baseline Diagnostic Polysomnograms, and Positive Airway Pressure titrations.
Demonstrate organizational, computer, interpersonal, and technical skills to complete quality clinical procedures and provide excellent patient care.
Assist with physician clinics and facilitate treatment compliance through patient education, mask fittings, and desensitization sessions, as needed.
Maintain proper cleanliness, care for, and functioning of sleep study equipment and supplies.
Ensure accurate registration, payment collection, and charging for patient encounters in the patient's electronic medical record (EMR).
Review patient charts, including physician orders, face-to-face interactions, history and physicals, medications, comorbidities, and prior patient sleep encounters, to confirm accuracy of orders and identify potential issues and effects on sleep studies.
Perform sleep disorders testing according to facility policy and procedures, as well as American Academy of Sleep Medicine, state, and federal government, and accrediting body standards and regulations.
Accurately complete all workflows, charting, scoring, documentation, and necessary scanning in the patient EMR and sleep study system for each patient encounter.
Assist with scheduling patient visits and procedures, reminder calls, filling vacancies from cancellation lists, and proper tracking of patient reschedules, cancellations, and no-shows in the EMR.
Promptly report any facility cleanliness, maintenance problems, safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, supply issues, patient complaints, patient or staff injuries, security concerns, infection control issues, and other relevant matters to management and the appropriate supporting department.
Complete all required continuing education in compliance with credentialing body, Sleep Center, and hospital accrediting bodies, and BSMH policy.
Perform other tasks deemed necessary by the manager to facilitate customer service or business operations, including shift, work schedule, department, or location changes.
Maintain positive relationships with customers, coworkers, and others.
Attend meetings as needed.
Requirements:
High School Diploma / GED
Specialty/Major: Sleep, Respiratory Therapy, EEG, or other clinical healthcare field.
Preferred Education: Vocational/Technical Degree or 4-year/Bachelor's Degree
Specialty/Major: Sleep Medicine, EEG, Respiratory Therapy with a Sleep Medicine Certification, or other clinical healthcare field with Sleep certification.
Licensure/Certification Required: RPSGT; BLS Certification
Minimum Years and Type of Experience: 1 year in direct patient care in a Sleep Center, EEG center, or hospital respiratory department
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Must demonstrate appropriate social skills, good oral and written communication skills, and computer literacy. Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision once training is complete.
