Critical Care Transport Nurse

Job Summary:
Carle Health is seeking a highly skilled Critical Care Transport Nurse to join our team. As a Critical Care Transport Nurse, you will provide high-quality nursing care to patients in need of critical care transport services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver patient care as directed by Patient Care Guidelines or online medical direction
- Comply with safety standards to ensure the safety of self, other medical personnel, patient, and equipment
- Participate in patient and referring institution follow-up
- Participate in planned outreach marketing and education activities
- Attend pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings and complete necessary documentation
- Assist in pre-mission liftoff checklist and assist pilot as requested
- Comply with safety standards to ensure the safety of self, other medical personnel, patient, and equipment
- Serve as flight resource to neonatal/obstetric personnel when transporting specialty team and patient
- Act as preceptor and/or participate in orientation of new employees and students as assigned
- Conduct safety briefings as necessary
- Communicate with appropriate medical personnel regarding patient condition, history, treatments, response to treatments, and other relevant information
- Maintain safety, security, cleanliness, and appearance of the aircraft, equipment, and supplies, including controlled substances and patient belongings
- Ability to work in confined mobile spaces
- Participate in departmental quality improvement activities
- Complete reports that are accurate and legible while ensuring that medical, billing, and administrative information is complete
- Become knowledgeable in all aspects of flight physiology, flight safety procedures, ground handling, emergency and non-emergent ambulance operations, navigation, and radio or telephonic communication
- Will remain within the safety standard of 235 pounds or less (235 pounds will include flight suit, boots, helmet, and coat)
- Adhere to Carle Behavior Standards
- Promote Critical Care Transport programs throughout Carle Health
- Ability to work in both air and ground transport vehicles
Requirements:
- College Diploma in Nursing
- Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License Illinois upon hire and Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License Indiana within 6 months
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 3 months or Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS) Certification within 3 months and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 3 months and International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) within 3 months or Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) within 3 months and National Incident Mgmt System (NIMS) 100 within 6 months and National Incident Mgmt System (NIMS) 200 within 6 months and National Incident Mgmt System (NIMS) 700 within 6 months and National Incident Mgmt System (NIMS) 800 within 6 months and Hazardous Materials Awareness Certification within 6 months
- National Nursing Certification CFRN (Certified Flight RN), CCRN (Critical Care RN), CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse), CTRN (Certified Transport RN) within 2 years
- Three (3) years' experience in area that includes high acuity and critical decision making
Skills and Knowledge:
- Highly trained and adaptable
- Capable of working independently and under high levels of stress
- Maintain composure under pressure and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Excellent communication skills
