Job Title: Preconstruction Estimator

At SPEC Process Engineering & Construction, we are seeking a highly skilled Preconstruction Estimator to join our team.

Job Summary

The Preconstruction Estimator will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting project information to assemble budgets, bids, and proposals. This role requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, as well as excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate bid requests and prepare detailed cost estimates
  • Input and adjust quantities with a high level of accuracy
  • Review project documents and manage client relationships
  • Ensure SPEC's standards of quality and safety are adhered to
  • Quantify material costs, man-power hourly costs, and sub buy-outs for assigned projects
  • Lead team in the creation of proposals and bids
  • Develop bid documents for each project
  • Prepare detailed take-offs and present budget and value engineering ideas to owner and design team
  • Manage bid list and coordinate with trade partners
  • Review subcontractor submittals if required
  • Assist with subcontractor buy-out and assemble quantities into project management tools with a high level of accuracy
  • Work collaboratively with Project Manager, Superintendent, and project team to phase assigned projects
  • Attend design development meetings and participate in project team meetings, client meetings, and JSR's for duration of assigned project
  • Communicate with clients, fostering successful and on-going relations
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a degree in Engineering or a related technical degree, and 5-7 years of estimating experience. Advanced math skills, ability to visualize in 2D and 3D, and an understanding of risk evaluation are also required. Key competencies include initiative, communication, teamwork, dependability, and attention to detail.

Technical skills in Procore and MS Office (Excel and Word) are also necessary.

Physical Demands

The Preconstruction Estimator will be required to walk, climb stairs, sit, and stand, as well as talk and hear at normal levels. Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus are also necessary. The employee may be exposed to conditions such as weather, fumes or airborne particles, exposure to dust and asphalt, and moving mechanical parts.
