As a pivotal component of a Level 3 trauma center, our surgical unit features 15 operating rooms within the esteemed Spectrum Health System. We are recognized for our excellence in bariatric and total joint surgeries, with a significant portion of our cases involving elective spine procedures. Our diverse surgical offerings also include General, Colon/Rectal, Urology, Bariatric, Plastic, and ENT surgeries. The operating room environment is equipped with advanced technology, including 3 Davinci robots, a Mako robot, and Mazor and Stealth systems. Collaboration is key, as our Nurses, Surgical Technologists, and Surgery Support Staff work in unison to ensure optimal patient care and support for surgeons and anesthesia providers throughout each procedure. Responsibilities of the Surgical Technologist

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for the meticulous preparation of the surgical suite, ensuring the proper handling of instruments during procedures, maintaining a sterile environment, and adapting to changing conditions throughout surgeries. This role requires a thorough understanding of surgical procedures and principles, with opportunities to serve as a Preceptor for new staff.

Qualifications

  • An Associate's Degree or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program is essential; not all programs confer an Associate's degree.
  • Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist is preferred, including clinical rotations.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or ARC is required within 90 days of hire.
