Job SummaryThe Physical Therapist will carry out an individualized program of physical therapy, including assessment, treatment, planning, implementation, education, and communication to maximize a patient's progress toward achieving functional goals. The Physical Therapist will work with patients who suffer from back and neck injuries, fractures, neurological disorders, surgery recovery, joint replacements, work or sports-related injuries, and other conditions to improve their movement and manage their pain.
Duties and Responsibilities- Provides direct patient care, reviews patients' medical histories, evaluates functional needs and outcomes, and consults with other specialists
- Diagnoses patients by observing their movements and listening to their concerns
- Designs and implements a plan of care for patients based on a thorough assessment of potential development and maintenance
- Develops individualized treatment plans for patients
- Outlines clear goals for patients and the expected outcomes of the plan
- Uses exercises, stretching, equipment, and hands-on therapy to manage patients' pain, increase mobility, and prevent further pain and injury
- Records patients' progress and modifies the plan of care if needed
- Reviews patients' functional needs and adjusts care plans to ensure optimal patient outcomes
- Documents evaluations, treatment goals, and plans and updates accordingly
- Educates patients and family members about the recovery process
- Works collaboratively with professionals from many other disciplines
- Conducts therapy practice within defined standards of care
- Directs the assistance of support staff to achieve patients' functional goals
- Communicates effectively with other professional and support staff to achieve positive patient outcomes
- Administers prevocational programs to prepare patients to return to or enter a work or school setting
- Practices company and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement programs, safety, environmental, and infection control standards
- Enhances professional growth and development of self and others through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, and workshops while keeping up to date on professional literature
- Provides direction and leadership to staff and acts as a resource to promote physical therapy in the community
- Master's degree of Physical Therapy (minimum)
- Current license from the state Board of Physical Therapy Examiners
- Active state license in Physical Therapy
- Duties require extensive standing and walking
- Requires lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring patients
- Duties require frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching
