Position Overview:
The Facilities Management Department is actively seeking candidates for the position of Building Service Worker. This role is essential in upholding cleanliness and sanitation standards throughout the campus environment. Building Service Workers are tasked with delivering daily cleaning and custodial services across all academic and administrative facilities.

The responsibilities encompass a wide range of cleaning activities, including but not limited to general sanitation, floor maintenance, waste disposal, recycling efforts, event preparation, pest management, and other related tasks.

These professionals are equipped with modern cleaning tools and techniques to ensure a clean, safe, and healthy campus atmosphere. They collaborate with various departments to maintain cleanliness and organization across all areas of the campus. Additionally, they are responsible for managing the inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment. Beyond their primary duties, Building Service Workers may be assigned additional tasks to support the overarching goals of the department. Efficiency, independence, and professionalism are expected in this role, along with adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment when necessary.

In summary, Building Service Workers play a pivotal role in maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Empty and sanitize waste receptacles.
  • Assist in waste removal in various building areas as needed.
  • Dust, mop, sweep, and scrub floors and surfaces, including tables and windows, using both manual and powered equipment.
  • Maintain and service restrooms.
  • Spot clean walls, partitions, doors, and other washable surfaces as required.
  • Operate cleaning machinery such as automatic scrubbers and carpet cleaners.
  • Move furniture, supplies, and equipment as directed.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding work direction and cleaning schedules.
  • Complete necessary administrative paperwork and participate in training sessions.

Compensation Structure:
This position is represented by a union and benefits from negotiated wage increases based on tenure:
  • 0-6 Months: $15.81
  • 6 Months to 2 Years: $16.32
  • 2 Years - 3 Years: $17.34
  • 3 Years - 4 Years: $18.36
  • 4 Years - 10 Years: $21.93

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates should possess knowledge of cleaning solutions and custodial practices, along with the ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
