About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Strategic HR Leader to join our team as Assistant Vice President, Human Resources. This senior-level position will play a crucial role in shaping the library's HR operations, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and promoting a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities
  1. Lead strategic planning and implementation of HR initiatives, aligning with the library's mission and goals.
  2. Maintain expertise in employment law, human resources, and talent management, staying up-to-date on relevant laws and best practices.
  3. Provide guidance and leadership to the human resource management team, resolving complex HR issues and concerns.
  4. Ensure operational functions comply with federal and state laws, as well as union contracts.
  5. Manage complex workplace investigations, collaborating with the General Counsel and Employee Relations team.
  6. Implement data-driven decision-making, analyzing trends and metrics to inform HR strategies.
  7. Serve as primary contact for employment assistance programs, fostering a positive employee experience.
People Manager Responsibilities
  1. Manage, mentor, and develop a team of 3-4 direct reports, fostering a culture of continuous learning and skill development.
  2. Create opportunities for growth and professional development, recruiting and hiring top talent to drive HR success.
  3. Provide constructive feedback and coaching, driving team performance and excellence.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Human Resources or related field required; relevant certifications preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive HR generalist experience, with at least 7 years in a people management leadership role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional interpersonal and conflict resolution abilities.
  • A strong record of leading in complex unionized environments, with a flexible and inclusive leadership style.
  • Proven time management and decision-making skills, with expert analytical and organizational abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with and build relationships with other teams outside of Human Resources.
Compensation

The estimated salary range for this position is $155,000 - $164,000 per year, reflecting the market value for a Strategic HR Leader in the New York City area.
