As a key member of the FAA team, the successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of the aviation industry.
Job Summary:The APAI will serve as a technical expert and provide guidance to field-level Aviation Safety Inspectors (ASIs) on complex policy interpretations. The incumbent will plan, design, and carry out programs, projects, studies, or other work, and provide policy assistance to ASIs on difficult or complex policy issues.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Provide technical guidance to ASIs on complex policy interpretations
- Plan, design, and carry out programs, projects, studies, or other work
- Provide policy assistance to ASIs on difficult or complex policy issues
- Issue certificates to and monitor large and complex aviation organizations or a number of smaller organizations that are comparable in complexity to one large one
- Evaluate and decide upon proposals to change the authorized programs of organizations
- Continuously monitor the activities of organizations to determine whether they are following their authorized program, Federal regulations, and good safety practices
- Plan and conduct assignments with substantial technical independence
- Receive administrative and policy guidance from supervisors and policy makers
- Obtain technical advice from higher-level inspectors who are experts on a particular type of aircraft or who have overall program responsibility
- US Citizenship is required
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959
- Must submit an SF50 (Notification of Personnel Action)
- Ingrade/Downgrade applications will be accepted
- Position is designated as Moderate Risk; Background investigation may be required
- Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal Aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years
- Valid State driver's license
- Fluency in the English language
- No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the Aviation Safety Inspector position in a safe and efficient manner
Education is not qualifying and cannot be substituted for this position
