  • Coordinate witness testimonies along with documentary and audiovisual evidence.
  • Ensure compliance with due process standards, assess the relevance and admissibility of evidence, and maintain a demeanor of impartiality and professionalism throughout the hearing.
  • Analyze the evidence presented, address legal and factual issues, and take into account both mitigating and aggravating factors.
  • Draft decisions that articulate the evidence considered and provide comprehensive explanations for the outcomes, including justifications for any sanctions or referrals to programs.
  • Record all hearings electronically and compile a complete documentation record for potential future legal proceedings.
  • Maintain a necessary level of independence while regularly communicating with supervisory staff from the Counsel's Office.
  • Additional responsibilities may encompass participation in departmental training sessions, meetings, occasional travel to support fellow hearing officers, and preparing responses to Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) appeals on behalf of the Department, along with any special assignments from the Deputy Commissioner and Counsel.

Some positions may necessitate further credentials or a background verification process to confirm identity.
