Job Summary

As an Accountant Trainee, you will assist in planning, organizing, and performing accounting policy work, including updating guidelines, uniform accounting systems, and budget documents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and performing accounting policy work, including updating guidelines and budget documents.
  • Review and analyze proposed accounting standards and legislative proposals, preparing written analysis on their impact on local governments.
  • Assist in planning and facilitating the Controller's Annual Conference with County Auditors, representing the SCO at various work group meetings.
  • Consult with staff from local, state, or federal agencies, CPA firms, or interested parties, addressing technical issues related to financial accounting and reporting requirements.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, governmental accounting, and budgeting.
  • Project planning and organization techniques.
  • Excellent communication and presentation techniques.
  • Ability to analyze accounting policies and procedures, research and apply current industry standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with local government officials, on committees and working groups.
