Position Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Environmental Sustainability Manager to join our team at one of our key North American locations. This role will report to the Director of Environment, Health, and Safety and will play a pivotal role in the development and execution of vital cross-segment Environmental programs aimed at achieving exceptional performance. The selected candidate will lead significant Sustainability initiatives and collaborate with top operational leaders to ensure compliance and exemplary environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strong leadership and engagement to achieve outstanding performance in environmental sustainability while coordinating interactions with internal resources and external partners in line with current policies and regulations.
- Offer strategic guidance on actions necessary for long-term enhancements in resource and energy consumption, alongside emission reductions. Promote participation in Energy Star initiatives.
- Develop reporting tools to keep Atkore leadership informed about progress on environmental initiatives and identify opportunities for further improvements and investments.
- Lead and engage actively in all environmental initiatives within Atkore's Sustainability reporting framework.
- Drive continuous improvements to cultivate a culture of environmental excellence within Atkore. Ensure accurate and timely reporting of all environmental metrics.
- Implement the environmental compliance strategy and strategic objectives throughout Atkore.
- Assist in conducting customer and supplier sustainability surveys, questionnaires, and audits on ESG topics.
- Perform compliance evaluations, hazardous waste assessments, and follow through with corrective actions.
- Exhibit excellent communication and project management skills, capable of leading cross-functional teams, maintaining timelines, managing multiple commitments, and producing clear, concise reports.
- Provide hands-on support at operational sites.
- Monitor, analyze, and evaluate metrics that assess the effectiveness of Environmental Strategy implementation and overall compliance, providing updates to leadership and determining the best course of action.
- Develop and implement information solutions for efficient, accurate, and comprehensive reporting and information exchange. Support management and data systems implementation, training, and compliance as necessary.
- Drive cost reduction and efficiency improvements related to Environmental engineering controls and processes.
- Plan, direct, and coordinate activities of team members to ensure objectives are met. Mentor, coach, and develop team members.
- Ensure timely submission, acquisition, and maintenance of all environmental permits and reports to comply with state and federal regulations.
- Regularly report on environmental, energy, and Energy Star initiatives and data.
- Provide active support and leadership for the sustainability report.
- Establish processes, controls, and documentation to ensure ongoing readiness for third-party assurance regarding key environmental metrics related to energy, greenhouse gas emissions, waste, and water.
- Lead, coach, and mentor teams in root-cause analysis and countermeasure development.
- Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or a related field; advanced degree (MBA, Master's) preferred.
- 10 years of progressive experience in Environmental leadership or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
- Willingness to travel locally, nationally, and/or internationally approximately 30% of the time.
- High proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook, and Internet applications.
- Extensive knowledge of national environmental standards and best practices.
- Strong analytical, prioritization, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management, and planning skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including analysis, interpretation, and reasoning.
- Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as with internal and external clients.
- Capacity to work autonomously and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to influence peers and management effectively.
- Strong communication and project management skills, including the ability to lead cross-functional teams, maintain timelines, manage multiple commitments, and produce clear, concise reports.
- Complete the Atkore immersion program.
- Understand how your role contributes to Atkore's strategic objectives.
- Begin to establish relationships at the site level and provide hands-on support.
- Lead environmental initiatives within Atkore's Sustainability reporting framework.
- Identify opportunities to enhance Atkore's safety and environmental culture.
- Engage in meaningful solution-oriented discussions with site leadership regarding Atkore's Sustainability program.
- Confidently address safety-related topics and initiatives with Senior Leadership.
- Continue to promote growth opportunities for our Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) program.
