Key Responsibilities
  • Product Development and Regulatory Guidance
    • Provide business partners and functional subject matter experts with guidance and business insights in the language development and delivery of products throughout the product life cycle.
  • Business Strategy and Goal Development
    • Participate with senior leadership in the development and implementation of business strategies and goals, regularly evaluating performance against goals, and holding self accountable for achieving desired results.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management
    • Own the drafting terms and conditions process by working closely with the product team to align on policy wording and/or risk management to understand how unique exposures should be addressed in the product.
    • Remain up-to-date on regulatory developments and trends in order to create product strategies and innovate coverage approaches in response to emerging risks.
    • Drive ongoing compliance by monitoring regulatory environment for area(s) of responsibility, researching insurance regulations and statutes, and updating policies and forms as needed.
  • Compliance-Related Reviews and Audits
    • Lead compliance-related reviews, including state regulatory exams and DOI inquiries by researching internal practices, managing and responding to form and endorsement inquiries, and making necessary adjustments as necessary.
  • Marketing and Risk Management Materials
    • Ensure accuracy and compliance of product-coverage related marketing materials, risk-management presentations and articles by reviewing and approving prior to use.
  • Special Projects and Team Mentoring
    • Lead special projects as needed and may mentor other team members.
Requirements
  • Expert Knowledge and Skills
    • Expert knowledge of the insurance business including product development, policy and endorsement language, underwriting, claim, legal, and regulatory knowledge.
    • Expertise in commercial general liability insurance contracts, coverage, and regulatory issues.
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • The ability to develop collaborative working relationships, articulate complex information, analysis, and recommendations in a concise manner to senior management and external parties.
  • Problem-Solving and Time Management
    • Demonstrated problem-solving mindset with critical thinking skills and ability to effectively research, evaluate and resolve ambiguous, complex and challenging business problems.
    • Strong work ethic, with demonstrated time management, organizational skills, and an ability to independently drive short-term projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Education and Experience
    • Typically a minimum of seven years related work experience in commercial insurance, underwriting, and contract drafting.
    • Juris Doctor and bar admission in a jurisdiction preferred.
    • Drafting experience preferred.
    • CPCU preferred.
