About the Job

This full-time role offers an estimated salary range of $51/hour and comes with hybrid work setup, requiring only 30 days of on-site presence per school year. The successful candidate will interpret between spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL) in various settings, including classrooms, meetings, and conferences.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret Accurately: Provide precise and impartial interpretation services from spoken English to ASL and vice versa.
  • Diverse Environments: Interpret in various settings, ensuring clear communication between parties.
  • Varying Levels of ASL Proficiency: Work with individuals having different levels of ASL proficiency.
  • Maintain Confidentiality: Uphold the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) code of professional conduct and maintain confidentiality.
  • Adapt to Different Signing Styles: Adapt interpretations to accommodate distinct signing styles and regional sign variations.
  • Clarify Concepts: Explain concepts as needed while preserving the integrity of the message.
  • Create Inclusive Environment: Assist in creating an accessible environment for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
  • Stay Updated: Engage in professional development to stay updated on best practices in ASL interpreting and Deaf culture.

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting for Extended Periods: Ability to sit for extended periods while working.
  • Constant Hand and Finger Use: Constant hand, finger, and arm use, along with excellent eye-hand coordination.
  • Hearing and Speaking Clearly: Ability to hear clearly and speak intelligibly.
  • Walking, Bending, Reaching: Ability to occasionally perform activities involving walking, bending, squatting, reaching, and climbing stairs.
  • Lifting and Moving: Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 lbs.
