The Departments of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and the Institute of Computational and Data Sciences at Penn State University invite applications for an open rank tenure-line faculty position for experts in the development or application of machine learning and artificial intelligence in the areas of Chemical, Molecular, or Structural Biology.
The chemical and biological fields are awash in data from diverse sources including, but not limited to, next-generation sequencing, mass spectrometry, Cryo-EM, and crystallography. There is great potential for computational techniques to rapidly advance many areas of chemistry and biology.
Penn State has committed to being a leader in the development and application of AI to a variety of fields through investments including a faculty cluster hire in this area.
Candidates should have a PhD and a record of accomplishment in developing or applying machine learning in one or more of these areas. Candidates who have an experimental component to their research are encouraged to apply, although a strong computational component is required.
The Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS) is home for advanced interdisciplinary computation and data-enabled collaborative science at Penn State. ICDS fosters both high-impact computational and data science methodologies as well as their applications to address a broad range of scientific and societal challenges.
