As a key team member, you'll be responsible for creating, producing and announcing topics on the radio, including music, entertainment, weather, sports, traffic and other topics of interest. This includes:

  • Announcing radio playlists of musical selections, giving weather and traffic conditions, delivering sport scores, statistics and upcoming game information.
  • Commenting on music and other matters of interest to the audience, and may interview musical personalities and members of the listening audience.
  • Typically specializing in one type of music, such as classical, pop, rock, country and western, etc.
  • Writing, reviewing and/or editing news copy, introductions, public service announcements, commercials, pre-recorded reports, contests, etc.
  • Participating in promotional events.
  • May be responsible for operating control boards for studios and remote programming.
  • Regulating program timing, operating syndicated programming, and playing commercials.
  • Protecting the station's license by censoring live programs and deleting words/phrases not permitted on air.
  • Processing time-out programming for accurate play back.
  • Handling emergency inserts, such as news updates and breaking stories, emergencies, alert system tests, etc.

To be successful in this role, you'll need to have:

  • Socially informed and perceptive; up-to-date and in tune with the local and national trends and/or specialized knowledge of topics/events related to on-air discussions.
  • Pleasant, charismatic and well-controlled voice; excellent pronunciation.
  • Well-rounded communication skills for conducting interviews.
  • Ability to make others feel comfortable and open up on air.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills; proficient in grammar.
  • Proficient in media production and broadcast systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and social networking.
  • May require selling skills.
  • May require other language proficiency, e.g., Spanish.

We're looking for someone with 1-2 years' experience as an announcer in a smaller market or college station environment, and a 4-year college degree in Communications or Broadcast Journalism. If you're excited about this role and are passionate about what we do, we encourage you to apply.

The salary for this role in Medford, MA is $55,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on experience.
