Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Plant Operations Specialist to join our team at Highland Pellets. In this role, you will be responsible for operating plant functions from the control room, managing chip feed, fuel feed, furnace, dryer, and secondary sizing.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where you will be multitasking with equipment alarms, monitoring spark detection systems, and maintaining accurate maintenance reports and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Operate plant functions from the control room under the direction of the control room lead operator.
  • Manage chip feed, fuel feed, furnace, dryer, and secondary sizing.
  • Monitor various levels and feed rates as instructed by the control room lead operator.
  • Monitor spark detection system.
  • Multitask with equipment alarms.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation.
  • Ensure all work is performed in a timely and safe manner.
  • Utilize skills to improve equipment optimization and reliability.
  • Maintain logs, record labor, material, and equipment used.
  • Meticulous attention to detail; able to follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Perform other related duties and serve as a backup resource as assigned.
  • Submit reports in accordance with reporting directives.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Proven experience as a control room operator.
  • Working knowledge of control room equipment and systems.
  • One year of in-plant manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to work independently and utilize critical problem-solving and decision-making skills to generate and implement solutions throughout the process.
  • Knowledge or ability to learn how to operate HMI touchscreens.
  • Maintain compliance within all LOTO, confined space, hot work, working at heights policies.
  • OSHA 10 training and experience.
  • Ability to work extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to continuously walk or stand, bend, squat, climb stairs, and lift items above shoulders.
  • Ability to work outdoors, rotating shifts, and lift 50 pounds required.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused in high-pressure situations.
  • Must possess basic math skills.
  • Must have proficient computer skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent education; trade school or college preferred.

Estimated Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 per year
