HEALTHCARE SUPPORT SPECIALIST

INTRODUCTION

The ICE Health Services Corps (IHSC) operates under the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), focusing on providing comprehensive healthcare services to individuals in custody.


ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The selected candidate will assist in the provision of medical services to individuals in a detention facility. Responsibilities include supporting healthcare professionals in delivering care to a diverse patient population, including adults and minors.


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Accredited educational institution or program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Minimum Education: high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Preferred: One year of experience in a clinical environment.
  • Preferred: Experience in a correctional or residential healthcare setting.


CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Active certification as a Medical Assistant from a recognized body.
  • Must maintain certification in Basic Life Support or equivalent.


PROFESSIONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think critically and work independently.
  • Cultural competence to effectively serve a varied patient demographic.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Proficient in using medical equipment and supplies for diagnostic and treatment procedures.
  • Ability to adapt to a multicultural environment and utilize interpreter services as needed.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records and standard office software.
  • Understanding of regulations regarding patient confidentiality.


KEY DUTIES

  • Provide direct patient care in accordance with established protocols.
  • Document patient interactions and care provided in electronic health records.
  • Assist licensed healthcare staff with various medical procedures.
  • Respond to health emergencies as directed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of medical supplies and equipment.


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including potential evening and weekend shifts.
  • Must be able to respond to medical emergencies promptly.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and assisting patients.
  • Must be capable of responding quickly to emergencies.
