Job Title: Assistant Teacher - Early Learning Center

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Assistant Teacher to join our team at the Community YMCA's Early Learning Center. As an Assistant Teacher, you will play a vital role in creating a safe and engaging environment for young children to learn and grow.

Job Summary

The Assistant Teacher will assist in implementing and evaluating the daily operations of the Child Care classroom, ensuring that all activities meet the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive development of each individual child. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as a commitment to continuous quality program improvements.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating daily program activities, using the current PA Early Learning Standards as a guide.
  • Offer activities that meet the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive development of each individual child, establishing goals and maintaining child portfolios.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment for all children, ensuring the classroom environment and outdoor areas are well supervised and in good condition.
  • Use positive guidance techniques, incorporating the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility when working with children, families, and coworkers.
  • Establish and maintain positive and productive relationships with families, keeping parents/guardians well informed regarding the child's growth and development.
  • Ensure Aides are included in the planning, implementing, and evaluation of daily program activities.
  • Maintain all paperwork, including attendance, developmental screenings, child assessments, accident/incident reports, and monthly reports, and submit to the Child Care Office in a timely manner.
  • Attend all staff meetings and family events as instructed by the Center Director.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude that reflects the YMCA at all times, upholding the policies outlined in the YMCA Personnel Policy handbook and Child Care Parent Handbook.
Qualifications
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • A high school diploma or General Education Certificate and 2 years (2500 hours) documented experience working with children.
  • Strong Leadership and Communication Skills.
  • A commitment to continuous quality program improvements.
  • Certifications: American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR/AED and Pediatric First Aid within 15 days of hire.
  • Completion of required trainings.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Physical Demands
  • Able to lift and carry 15-50 pounds.
  • Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise children's activities.
  • Must be able to see, hear, direct, and assist members, guests, and staff to ensure safety.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
