Acquisitions Editor

We are seeking an experienced Acquisitions Editor to join our team at Johns Hopkins University Press. As a key member of our editorial department, you will be responsible for acquiring trade and professional books in the Sciences, working closely with authors, series editors, and other stakeholders to bring high-quality publications to market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Commission and develop book projects that align with the Press's strategic goals and objectives.
  • Review and select book proposals and manuscripts for publication, working with editorial committees to ensure the highest quality content.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with authors, agents, and other industry professionals to identify and acquire new book projects.
  • Collaborate with staff in Manuscript Editing, Design and Production, Marketing, and Finance to ensure that books are published to the highest standards.
  • Participate in professional communities associated with the editor's field, staying up-to-date on the latest research and trends.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Five (5) years of related publishing experience required.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience in accordance with the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience acquiring trade, professional, and scholarly books for publication and building book lists of national reputation.
  • Outstanding research, writing, speaking, and presentation skills, with exceptional editorial, business, and negotiation skills.
