Mountain View, Arkansas, United States Waymo Full time

Waymo is a leading autonomous driving technology company with a mission to be the most trusted driver. Our team has been working on building the Waymo Driver, the world's most experienced driver, to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo One, a fully autonomous ride-hailing service, and can be applied to various vehicle platforms and product use cases. Our driver has provided over one million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving tens of millions of miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 13+ U.S. states.

Simulation plays a crucial role in empowering our software to lead millions of miles before hitting the road, allowing engineers to detect and fix issues at a faster pace - a core to our success. The VADR team ensures that simulated self-driving cars mirror real-world driving, forming a keystone of our simulation fidelity. Our product faithfully reproduces driving events and discovers realistic driving behaviors in simulation. It works with a significant part of our onboard software stack and reproduces and is used by the majority of our engineering team, affecting our business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design the long-term architecture and software features to fit the product for an increasing number of internal customers.
  • Design a smooth experience of how our product can fit into the Waymo eval tooling ecosystem.
  • Continuously find novel ways to improve the driving realism of our simulation.
  • Improve and monitor the scalability and reliability of the product.
  • Mentor other senior engineers in the team.

Requirements:

  • Hands-on experience building a popular user-facing (internal or external) product.
  • Experience with backend knowledge, including workflows, database, SQL, and production monitoring.
  • Design and coding skills in C++ or Python.

We prefer:

  • 5+ years of experience.
  • Previous Technical Lead experience.
  • Experience working on full-stack or working with front-end engineers.

Waymo employees are eligible to participate in our discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements. The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.

Salary Range: $226,000 - $286,000 USD
