The Pediatric Hematology Oncology Clinic at MUSC is in search of a dedicated RN Care Specialist to deliver personalized, goal-oriented care to pediatric patients and their families. This role is pivotal in ensuring high-quality nursing practices and enhancing patient outcomes through effective communication and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
As a vital member of our multidisciplinary team, the RN Care Specialist will:
- Utilize the nursing process to coordinate comprehensive care for pediatric oncology and complex hematology patients.
- Engage in direct patient care activities, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
- Manage patient communications, including appointment scheduling, follow-ups, and educational outreach.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurse navigators, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care transitions.
Patient Coordination:
This role involves the primary coordination of care for new oncology diagnoses and ongoing management of complex cases. Responsibilities include:
- Establishing a primary point of contact for patients and families.
- Facilitating the development of intake and triage workflows.
- Coordinating referrals and shared care with external facilities.
- Identifying and connecting patients with community resources to support their needs.
Education and Support:
The RN Care Specialist will also focus on patient education, which includes:
- Creating educational materials in collaboration with supervising physicians.
- Providing guidance on treatment regimens and adherence strategies.
- Serving as a resource for clinical trial opportunities and home therapy coordination.
Quality Improvement:
Participation in quality improvement initiatives is essential, including:
- Monitoring clinical quality indicators to enhance patient care.
- Collaborating with marketing teams to promote outreach efforts.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution is required, along with three years of relevant nursing experience. Licensure as a registered nurse in South Carolina or a compact state is mandatory. Certification in a specialty area may be required for certain positions.
Physical Requirements:
The role necessitates the ability to perform various physical tasks, including standing, walking, and lifting. Candidates should be capable of managing the physical demands of patient care effectively.
