JOB TITLE: Managing Optometrist

POSITION SUMMARY:

Deliver exceptional patient care through accurate diagnosis and treatment of ocular conditions and diseases affecting the human eye and visual system. Conduct comprehensive eye examinations, identify issues or impairments, prescribe corrective lenses, and administer treatment. Prescribe therapeutic medications to address specific eye disorders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities outlined below are considered essential functions of this role for various reasons: the duty is integral to the position, failure to execute the duty may lead to significant consequences, a limited pool of employees is available to perform the duty, or the duty necessitates specialized expertise.

  • Prescribe medications, low vision rehabilitation, vision therapy, spectacle lenses, and contact lenses.
  • Advise patients on surgical and non-surgical alternatives that align with their visual requirements related to their professions, hobbies, and lifestyle.
  • Optometrists must assess patients' eyewear needs and provide product recommendations that enhance their vision and safeguard their ocular health.
  • Deliver vision services, including eye examinations.
  • Treat refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.
  • Prescribe and fit eyeglasses and contact lenses.
  • Provide low vision aids and vision therapy.
  • Diagnose ocular conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and conjunctivitis.
  • Prescribe medications for specific eye conditions, as permitted by state regulations.
  • Engage in pre- or post-operative care for patients requiring surgical intervention.
  • Communicate effectively with patients to gather comprehensive case histories.
  • Offer guidance and reassurance to patients regarding vision-related concerns.
  • Draft referral communications to other healthcare providers.
  • Collaborate with other medical professionals when necessary and share in the management of patients with chronic eye conditions.
  • Facilitate a smooth transition for patients to the optical department to relay prescription information to the Optician or eyewear consultant.
  • Achieve sales objectives related to the sale of spectacles or contact lenses.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills and Education

  • Strong business acumen, self-discipline, and the ability to interact tactfully with patients.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  • Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited optometry institution.
  • Successful completion of the National Board examination and a National, Regional, or State clinical examination.
