Role ResponsibilitiesThe Hospice Chaplain plays a vital role in delivering spiritual guidance and emotional support to individuals and families navigating terminal illnesses and end-of-life circumstances. This position is a key component of the interdisciplinary hospice care team, ensuring that the spiritual needs of patients are addressed with compassion and dignity.
Qualifications- Education: A Master of Divinity is preferred.
- Licensure: Must adhere to state regulations, if applicable.
- Experience: A minimum of one year as a Chaplain in a healthcare setting is preferred.
- Skills: Familiarity with community spiritual resources, strong interpersonal abilities, and reliable transportation with current auto liability insurance and a valid driver's license if using a personal vehicle for work.
This role involves working in patient residences and various healthcare facilities, often under diverse conditions. There may be occasional exposure to infectious diseases, and the ability to travel locally is required, which may include exposure to varying weather conditions.
Physical and Mental DemandsThe position requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting, along with the ability to perform under occasionally stressful situations to meet the needs of patients and families. Quick decision-making and the ability to facilitate spiritual care are essential.
Key Functions- Deliver spiritual care and support to hospice patients and their families.
- Conduct spiritual evaluations and create personalized care plans.
- Provide counseling and emotional assistance to those facing end-of-life challenges.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Facilitate religious services and rituals as requested by patients and families.
- Offer grief support and bereavement counseling to families and caregivers.
- Maintain precise documentation of spiritual care services rendered.
- Engage in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to care strategies.
- Educate staff and volunteers on spiritual care methodologies.
- Ensure that services align with the preferences and beliefs of patients and families.
