Job Overview: The role of adjunct faculty involves the effective planning and delivery of courses in American Sign Language and Interpreting to a diverse student body. Instruction may occur in various formats, including in-person, remote, and online settings. Faculty members are expected to teach up to 12 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters and up to 8 credit hours in the summer session, contingent upon student enrollment and institutional needs. It is important to note that the adjunct faculty contract does not guarantee ongoing employment.

Location Requirement: Candidates must reside within the DMV area (DC, VA, MD).

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver instruction in designated courses.
  • Create and maintain course syllabi and instructional materials.
  • Track student progress, assign grades, and maintain accurate records.
  • Follow the policies and regulations set forth by the organization.
  • Stay updated in the field of specialization.

Key Expectations:
Each faculty member is expected to provide quality instruction by attending classes regularly, submitting required documentation, teaching the designated curriculum, and adhering to professional ethics as outlined by the organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to engage with a diverse student population.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient analytical abilities.
  • Capability to teach during various times, including day, evening, or weekends.
  • Familiarity with instructional technology.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in ASL.
  • Ability to teach ASL and Interpreting courses.
  • Collaborative work skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in American Sign Language, Interpreting, or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching American Sign Language at the college level.
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education.
  • Familiarity with classroom, hybrid, and online teaching formats.
  • Commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive educational environment.
  • Experience working with students from various language backgrounds and proficiency levels.
