Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Join the Boston Public Schools team as a Mechanical Engineer and play a crucial role in maintaining the district's facilities and ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment for students and staff.

Job Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for managing the daily operation, maintenance, and repairs of the district's mechanical systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and energy management systems. This includes overseeing the work of contractors and vendors, developing and implementing maintenance schedules, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and codes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the daily operation and maintenance of mechanical systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and energy management systems.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules and ensure compliance with safety regulations and codes.
  • Oversee the work of contractors and vendors, including scheduling and coordinating repairs and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with architects and engineers to develop and implement capital projects and upgrades.
  • Develop and manage budgets and contracts for maintenance and repair projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and codes, including OSHA and NFPA standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to facilities staff and other stakeholders.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 7-10 years of experience in facilities management or a related field.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and energy management systems.
  • Experience with maintenance scheduling and budgeting.
  • Strong communication and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience working in a school district or educational setting.
  • Knowledge of sustainability and energy efficiency principles.
  • Experience with building information modeling (BIM) and computer-aided design (CAD) software.
