Licensed Respiratory Care Specialist

As a key member of the Respiratory Services team within the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, the Licensed Respiratory Care Specialist plays a vital role in delivering comprehensive respiratory care to our patients.
This position is integral to the specialty Medicine department at the NWI VA Health Care System, where our commitment to a Whole Health System of care is paramount.
Key Responsibilities:In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Administering both basic and advanced respiratory therapies to patients, ensuring the highest standards of care.
- Effectively managing mechanical ventilation and non-invasive ventilation, while demonstrating proficiency in advanced airway management techniques.
- Participating in emergency response teams, including CODE BLUE and Rapid Response Teams, to provide critical care to the most severely ill patients.
- Conducting arterial blood gas analyses and accurately interpreting results to guide treatment decisions.
- Collaborating with healthcare professionals to develop and implement personalized health plans that align with the Veterans Health Administration's mission.
- Monitoring patients for potential side effects from inhaled medications and ensuring their ongoing safety during respiratory treatments.
- Documenting patient interactions and care provided in compliance with established protocols.
- Performing outpatient duties and pulmonary lab responsibilities as assigned.
This position operates on a standard schedule, with no telework options available. Requirements:
To qualify for this position, candidates must:
- Be a U.S. Citizen.
- Possess a current and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
- Demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English.
- Be willing to participate in mandatory health programs, including seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations.
Applicants must have completed an accredited respiratory care program and hold the RRT credential. Experience in a clinical setting is preferred, with a focus on therapeutic modalities related to respiratory care.
