Job Overview:

The Forestry Operations Supervisor will oversee and coordinate the activities of a ten-member forestry team composed of inmates from the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry (ADCRR). Key responsibilities include managing forestry projects, arranging transportation for team members to and from work sites, maintaining vehicles and equipment, and monitoring supply inventories. Additionally, it is essential to document team member hours, incidents, training progress, productivity metrics, and receipts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a ten-member forestry team of ADCRR inmates.
  • Record team member activities and accomplishments while recruiting, training, and inspiring them.
  • Provide on-site training and preparation for a rigorous pack test at the Arizona State Prison Complex.
  • Address team members' needs with a balanced approach of firmness and fairness.
  • Conduct and supervise forestry operations including equipment usage, tree felling, brush thinning, and herbicide application.
  • Implement the Incident Command System and collaborate with relevant organizations.
  • Engage in safety inspections, emergency response actions, and on-call responsibilities as needed.
  • Transport team members, ensure vehicle and equipment upkeep, and manage inventory.
  • Drive for official business purposes.
  • Perform additional assigned tasks as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of: Managing inmate work crews, timber harvesting techniques, safety regulations, Incident Command System protocols, inventory management, and procurement processes.
  • Skills in: Leadership, organizational abilities, timekeeping, and chainsaw operation.
  • Ability to: Supervise crew members effectively, perform physically demanding tasks, navigate challenging terrains, obtain first aid/CPR certification, drive for official purposes, and work flexible hours.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in personnel management is advantageous.

Pre-Employment Requirements: Successful completion of a background check and possession of a valid Arizona Driver's License.
