Job Summary/Description:This role, under guidance, involves executing and documenting all facets of greenhouse management, which includes preparing growth mediums, planting, nurturing, irrigating, fertilizing, applying treatments, and conducting assessments. Responsibilities also encompass comprehending plant development needs, soil science, and nutrient management in growth mediums, alongside integrated pest control strategies. The Horticultural Operations Supervisor mentors and oversees student aides, interns, and volunteers.
Typical Duties/Job Duties:- Facility Management: Oversees and regulates greenhouse conditions, manages infrastructure and equipment, coordinates upkeep.
- Plant Care: Ensures plant vitality, pest and disease control, and maintains cleanliness within the greenhouse.
- Record Keeping: Develops and upholds policies, documents procedures and protocols accurately.
- Community Engagement: Collaborates with faculty, students, and visitors, leads student workers and volunteers, participates in community events.
- Reporting: Communicates incidents, emergencies, and details to the Greenhouse Director, provides summaries of outreach efforts.
- Additional Responsibilities: As assigned by the greenhouse director.
- Proficient in plant care and plant science.
- Understanding of greenhouse management practices.
- Basic computer proficiency, exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented, able to solve problems effectively under deadlines.
- Experience in horticultural or greenhouse management.
- Dedication to working with diverse groups.
- Willingness to work flexible hours.
Bachelor's degree in a related field, with a minimum of three years of experience in horticultural or greenhouse management.
Physical Requirements:This position necessitates frequent walking, standing, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, visual and auditory acuity, manual dexterity, and the ability to work in warm and humid environments.
