Registered Nurse II

This role is considered the minimum requirement for all nurses with over 12 months of experience. As a Registered Nurse II, you will provide and coordinate independent care to patients within a clinical specialty as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team.
Key Responsibilities- Provides independent care to unit-specific patient populations, serving as a clinical resource for others and utilizing evidence-based practice.
- Accountable to patients and families for the processes and outcomes of care during an episode of care.
- Accountable to peers for the advancement of group practice on the unit and to the nurse manager for the totality of work performance.
- Serves as an effective primary coordinating nurse, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care addressing patient/family needs.
- Assists in team development and evaluation of Patient and Family Centered Care principles, suggesting methods for improvement.
- Participates in the collection of data related to outcomes, such as hand-offs and medication safety.
- Participates in implementation efforts addressing Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI).
- Complies with standards and participates in unit-level activities for regulatory compliance.
- Supports charge nurse decisions and performs charge role for assigned shifts as needed.
- Assists in the development of clinical practice protocols and standards for the unit.
- Participates in unit-based process activities, including Performance Improvement, Professional Development, Clinical Practice, and Teamwork.
- Orients Clinical Nurse I to unit-level decision-making structures and councils.
- Serves as a preceptor, coach, and mentor to new nurses and students.
- Contributes to the development of ancillary personnel skills and attends educational offerings and in-services independently.

Qualifications
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland or eligibility to practice due to Compact state agreements.
- Up-to-date status on all mandatory training and classes.
- One year of nursing experience with solid knowledge and clinical skills.
- Diploma in nursing or Associate's Degree in nursing required.
- Current BLS certification required, with unit-based licensure as required for the role.
- Maintenance of 10 contact hours of education every two years.
- Recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting.

- Demonstrates highly effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates leadership qualities through effectiveness as a charge nurse, preceptor, or clinical resource.
- Ability to learn and use computer systems to manage patient information.
- Ability to participate in team-building efforts on units, supporting and modeling teamwork.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population served.
Patient Safety
- Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department, or unit patient safety initiatives.
- Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
- Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
- Implements policies, procedures, and standards consistently in the performance of assigned duties.
- Develops effective working relationships and maintains good communication with other team members.
