Primary Role: Conduct a range of intricate chemical and/or microbiological analyses for diverse water matrices utilizing advanced analytical instruments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute a variety of complex sample analyses necessitating analytical proficiency in designated techniques; process samples within required holding times; prioritize, generate, and interpret sample data through meticulous review; ensure data produced adheres to EPA and accrediting authority standards.
  • Provide timely responses and follow-ups to laboratory inquiries from utility subsidiaries, business partners, and client groups.
  • Serve as a resource for less experienced colleagues; engage in cross-training with more experienced peers to enhance competence across all laboratory areas.
  • Identify both routine and non-routine issues, performing necessary troubleshooting and maintenance of analytical equipment and processes to ensure ongoing sample analysis and optimal instrument performance, collaborating with vendors and service technicians to resolve challenges.
  • Conduct secondary reviews and validation of data generated by colleagues with equal or lesser expertise; participate in preparation for and follow-up to internal and external audits; assist in the development of standard operating procedures and corrective actions.
  • Assess and monitor supplies and other laboratory expenses to aid in maintaining the laboratory budget.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Proficient in operating complex analytical chemistry instruments.
  • Competent in using computer applications (including Word and Excel, LIMS, and other necessary software).
  • Familiarity with EPA, NELAC, and OSHA regulations.

Experience/Education:

  • 2-4 years of progressively responsible experience in an environmental laboratory is preferred.
  • Experience with GC, GC/MS, HPLC, IC, ICP, ICP/MS, LC/MS, or microscopy is preferred.
  • A BA/BS in Chemistry, Biology, or a related field is required.
  • Relevant laboratory experience along with bachelor-level coursework may be considered in lieu of a completed bachelor’s degree.

Travel Requirements:

  • Limited travel may be required.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily an indoor laboratory setting.
  • Laboratory tasks will involve periods of standing while conducting bench work, operating lab instruments, and sitting for data entry.
  • Some lifting may be necessary.
  • Occasional outdoor work may be required in various weather conditions.
