Synthetic Chemist

The Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals team is seeking a highly skilled Chemist I to join our API Development and Support organization. This role will involve synthesizing and packaging analytical reference standards, conducting experimentation and testing to support process safety hazard assessments, and providing general synthetic chemistry support for active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work in a fast-paced, results-oriented team environment to meet internal and external customers' needs.
• Contribute to the synthesis and packaging of analytical reference standards.
• Support API crystallization and milling studies while working closely with process chemists, process engineers, and analytical chemists.
• Conduct calorimetry testing (RC1, ARSST, ARC, etc.) in support of API process safety hazard assessments.
• Work effectively with development chemists, analytical chemists, Engineering, and Safety to contribute to the scale-up and manufacturing of APIs.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives for manufacturing processes.
• Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
• Remain compliant with company, site, and safety policies and procedures.

Requirements:

• BS/BA in Chemistry.
• Some organic and analytical chemistry lab experience, preferably in a research lab setting (academic or industry).
• Understanding of the fundamental aspects of organic and analytical chemistry.
• Basic understanding of analytical techniques such as IR, MS, NMR, and HPLC.
• Ability to effectively interact with others.
• Desire to solve technically complex problems.

Working Conditions:

Typical laboratory conditions. Employees are required to wear eye protection and lab coats while in the lab area. Occasional handling of potent compounds or hazardous chemicals may require the use of additional PPE. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) regulated workplace. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 lbs.
