Job DescriptionOverview:
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) plays a vital role in delivering high-quality medical care to diverse patients. This individual will work independently and collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure proper illness and injury care, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. The APRN may prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests as necessary.
Core Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive physical examinations and document complete health histories.
- Function independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical examinations for patients.
- Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests relevant to patient needs.
- Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
- Implement interventions to support patients in regaining or maintaining physiologic stability.
- Assist with providing care according to facility, state, and federal regulations.
- Monitor the effectiveness of interventions.
- Facilitate patient transition within and between healthcare settings.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members through referrals.
- Facilitate staff, patient, and family decision-making by providing educational tools.
- Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures while safeguarding assets.
Department-Specific Functions:
The APRN will participate in inpatient and outpatient services at Jackson South and West Medical Centers. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing care and treatment to patients in inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Offering medical support to staff, triaging and implementing care in a knowledgeable and skillful manner.
- Obtaining complete medical history, performing physical exams, and interpreting medical history.
- Administering nursing assessments, including examining and assessing patient health status.
- Reviewing patient medications and reconciling them in the EMR.
- Ordering lab tests, analyzing results, and taking actions as necessary.
- Entering orders and requesting labs.
- Scheduling follow-up visits, MRIs, and labs.
- Writing visit notes on patients.
- Counseling patients and families on continued care.
- Ensuring the effectiveness of interventions.
- First point of contact for patient calls regarding test results, symptoms, medication refills, authorizations, and forms.
- Maintaining clinic flow to see patients at scheduled times and avoid delays.
Education:
A Master's degree in a relevant field is required.
Certification and Licensing:
A valid State of Florida APRN License is necessary.
Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
- Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
