POSITION TITLE: Educational Speech Therapist

OVERVIEW:
The Educational Speech Therapist (EST) delivers specialized consultative and direct speech-language therapy services to students ranging from PreK to 12th grade. The EST plays a crucial role in conducting assessments, screenings, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and providing guidance to students, educational staff, and families regarding effective intervention techniques.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree and full certification as a Speech-Language Pathologist in accordance with state educational regulations.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the recognized professional association.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to independently troubleshoot, organize daily tasks, exemplify effective communication, and engage collaboratively with children, students, parents, and educational professionals.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in delivering direct and consultative speech-language therapy services within an educational setting.
  • Background in training school personnel and family members on intervention strategies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assess students to establish eligibility for special education services. Choose and apply suitable evaluation methods (including classroom observations, case history reviews, standardized assessments, and informal evaluations) based on the student's capabilities.
  • Accurately convey evaluation results to parents and educational staff.
  • Implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). Design and adjust therapy objectives and goals, ensuring alignment with educational standards and tailored materials and activities to suit the needs, interests, and abilities of students. Monitor student progress and revise goals as necessary.
  • Create and sustain a learning environment that is supportive and appropriate for the students' capabilities.
  • Advise parents, educators, and students regarding the nature, impact, and management of communication disorders.
  • Establish and nurture positive working relationships with staff, students, and families. Participate in training programs and contribute to the planning and delivery of workshops.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of special education regulations and ensure compliance.
  • Engage in and support the development of MET/IEP processes as required.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records as mandated by law and district policies; submit documentation in a timely manner. Records include, but are not limited to, MET/IEP documents, service logs, student progress reports, and compliance monitoring reports.
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Must uphold confidentiality regarding agency and district matters at all times.
  • Exhibit sound judgment and discretion when interacting with families, students, and staff.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications including productivity software.
  • Effectively manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously to achieve objectives and utilize resources efficiently.
  • Exhibit organization, self-motivation, and enthusiasm.
  • Adapt and function independently in various settings.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and may require travel within the region.
  • Occasional travel to other areas may be necessary.
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Full-time position with expectations for regular attendance and performance capabilities.

SUPERVISION: Reports to the Executive Director of Special Education.

COMPENSATION: As per the collective bargaining agreement.
