Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Director - Traffic and Incident Management

Job Summary:

The Assistant Director - Traffic and Incident Management will provide administrative oversight of safety, incident management, traffic engineering, and traffic operations of the Traffic and Incident Management (TIM) department. This role will lead and develop employees, analyze trends, and develop reports, as well as coordinate public safety, wrecker, and traffic operations, and develop the budget.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage the annual budget by researching information, recommending purchases, expenditures, capital equipment, and staffing levels.
  • Manage contracts by maintaining and reviewing regular reports and spreadsheets, reporting contract status, and ensuring managers monitor work progress and adherence to schedules and budgets.
  • Oversee accreditation and performance management programs by facilitating policy and practice development, regular assessments, developing training programs, and creating employee involvement.
  • Deploy nationally recognized incident command system (ICS) and management (NIMS) principals, provide incident scene response, and work to improve incident response and management activities.
  • Deploy nationally recognized traffic management and traffic engineering principals, assist with ITS projects, and evaluate data to determine patterns and improve traffic safety.

Qualifications:

  • Texas PE (if have out of state PE must have ability to obtain Texas Professional Engineering (PE) within 6 months of hire)
  • In field experience
  • At least 9 years' experience
  • Must meet the requirements of the CJIS checklist (Criminal Justice Information System) have ability to become certified within first year of job
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in civil or transportation engineering
  • PTOE certification (professional traffic operations engineer)
  • Valid Texas class "C" driver's license
