Job Overview

The Military DoD SkillBridge initiative provides Service members with a unique opportunity to acquire valuable civilian work experience through targeted industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during their final 180 days of service. This program connects Service members with industry partners for hands-on job experiences under the Department of Defense Instruction. Eligible Service members may receive up to 180 days of permissive duty to focus exclusively on training full-time with approved industry partners, contingent upon written authorization from their unit commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in the chain of command). GE Renewable Energy Power and Aviation, as a SkillBridge partner, offers practical training and work experience in high-demand fields while allowing the Service member to demonstrate their suitability for the role.

Internship Responsibilities

This internship may involve support across various sectors within the operations of Test System Engineering. Key areas include:

• Instrumentation and Data System Operations (Primary)
• Component Test Engineering
• Evaluations Engineering
• Test Systems and Instrumentation
• Test Data and Controls

Utilizing acquired skills, company policies, and procedures, you will address challenges and assess the performance of jet engine components. You will engage in technical assignments related to instrumentation and data acquisition/processing systems under the guidance of experienced staff or project personnel, ensuring that the company delivers quality data to its clients.

As part of a collaborative team, you will undertake a variety of tasks, working in a laboratory environment alongside other groups to establish test setups, evaluate components, and gather results for Engineering stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Adhere to all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, policies, and regulations.
• Collaborate with external organizations and internal support functions to meet business requirements.
• Address assignments within your area, identifying and resolving issues related to equipment, processes, or products.
• Effectively communicate work outcomes to relevant parties.
• Contribute to team efforts to successfully meet priorities.
• Prepare and implement work plans to enhance laboratory capabilities through equipment updates.
• Execute tasks including setup, installation, calibration, data collection, documentation, and operation of various data acquisition systems.
• Utilize specialized test instrumentation, including strain gauges, accelerometers, and optical probes.
• Route specialized test sensors at the component level for development testing of turbo-shaft and turbo-fan engines.
• Assist in diagnosing and rectifying instrumentation or system malfunctions, escalating issues as necessary.
• Conduct component-level testing across diverse fields such as bearings, seals, airflow, and fluid systems.
• Maintain effective communication with team members, support organizations, and clients.
• Promote good housekeeping practices and observe safety protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient interpersonal and leadership abilities.
  • Airframe & Powerplant license preferred.
  • Competent in using personal computers for navigating online documents and instructions.
  • Experience in a team-oriented environment.
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Final offers will be contingent upon the ability to obtain authorization for access to such information from the U.S. Government.
