About the Role

The Purchasing Supplier Development (PSD) Engineering Department at Toyota is in search of a dynamic and driven Engineer.

Your main focus will be to spearhead the development of new model products and processes in collaboration with our Supplier Partners for all vehicles manufactured in North America. To accomplish this, you will implement the PSD New Model Development Operational Procedure, optimizing designs for manufacturability to meet project timelines.

This role is crucial in supporting PSD's mission to enhance our outsourced supply base, ensuring optimal cost, quality, manufacturability, and operational independence. Candidates should consistently exhibit next-level capabilities as outlined in the Toyota Core Competencies and fulfill the expectations of this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leverage process engineering and Toyota Production System expertise through collaborative efforts with Supplier Partner teams to design and implement efficient manufacturing processes.
  • Oversee and execute the PSD operating procedure for designated accessory commodities across various vehicle programs.
  • Formulate, implement, and adjust project strategies for critical components based on risk assessment.
  • Collaborate with Supplier Partners to establish effective project timelines to meet vehicle milestone goals and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Guide Supplier Partner teams in problem-solving and consensus-building to address risks using Toyota Business Practices.
  • Maintain and relay part status information to support project KPI visualization, both internally and externally.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or a related technical field, or 4+ years of equivalent professional experience in automotive manufacturing or engineering.
  • Experience in Manufacturing, Quality, or Engineering, including relevant co-op experience, developing automotive or similar commodities, such as:
    • Interior components - Trim, Garnish, Instrument Panel, Console Box, HVAC
    • Exterior components - Grill, Bumper, Rocker, Spoiler, Undercover, Outer Mirror, Door handle, Glass
    • Electrical/Electronic components - Audio, Multi-media, ECU, Battery, Hybrid System
    • Safety and Functional components - Airbag, Seat Belt, Steering Wheel, Accelerator/Brake Pedal, Sunroof
    • Chassis components - Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Driveline
    • Powertrain components - Engine, Transmission, Battery
    • Body & Assembly components - Frame, Body stamping, Structural stamping & weld
    • Seats/Soft Trim components - Seat, Headliner, Door Trim
  • Experience in developing one or more of the following processes:
    • Molding processes, Plastics joining, Complex Assembly, Paint or Coatings application
    • Electronics Soldering/SMT, Complex Assembly, Sewing, Wrapping, Wire harness assembly
    • Casting, Forging (Aluminum & Iron)
    • Machining, Milling, Heat Treatment
    • Stamping, Welding
    • Materials including Steel, Aluminum, Resins, Paint, Rubber
  • Familiarity with General Automotive Body and Vehicle Structures.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings/prints, including basic GD&T for manufactured parts.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in automotive manufacturing, either directly with an Automotive OEM or Supplier.
  • Experience in New Model Production Preparation with a proven ability to manage:
    • Multiple Tier 1 Suppliers Production Preparation across various vehicle/unit projects.
    • The establishment of manufacturing processes, including critical characteristics and parameter controls across diverse inputs such as Tooling, Equipment, Process Capacity, Capability, Quality, Throughput, and Human Development.
  • Experience in design feedback for manufacturability or cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Proficiency with Catia /AutoCAD/Autoform.
  • Experience with Tool & Die Structure and Design for Stamping, Welding, Casting, Injection Molding, and/or Forging.
  • Experience in Toyota Purchasing Supplier Development or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of Toyota Business Practice (TBP) Panel or other established problem-solving methodology training.
