The Physical Therapist Assistant position plays a vital role in assisting and following through with patient treatment programs designed by the Physical Therapist in the department for the treatment of musculoskeletal and other physical problems interfering with maximum functioning of patients.
Key Responsibilities- Works closely with Physical Therapist to receive guidance and instruction for treating physical therapy patients.
- Directs and assists patients in a program of exercises, muscle re-education, and gait training.
- Administers physical therapy treatment programs by using therapeutic modalities such as heat, cold, hydrotherapy, massage, electrical therapy, and manual techniques.
- Reports patient's progress in charts and bills patient according to established procedures.
- Fits and provides TENS/IFC units, traction units, lumbar supports, or other assistive devices under the direction of the Physical Therapist.
- Educates patient and family in proper care and use of various supports and exercise programs.
- Supervises physical therapy aides in the course of patient treatment according to the rules set forth by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.
- Works with Physical Therapist to develop treatment programs and carries out other duties as delegated by the Physical Therapist.
- Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant in the State of Texas.
- Ability to perform frequent sitting, standing, walking, and occasional squatting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and crawling motions.
- Ability to occasionally lift 50 pounds or more with or without mechanical aids.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- High level of organizational and time-management skills.
- Well-groomed appearance and professional manner.
- Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor.
