Job Title: Cognitive Education Specialist Position

TheraPeeds Family Center is a world-renowned therapy center that utilizes the science of neuroplasticity to retrain the brains and minds of children and adults with physiological and psychological limitations. Our brain-based interventions are based on our proprietary H.O.P.E Method, a neurodevelopmental approach to therapy that leverages the principles of brain development.

Responsibilities:


  1. Conduct standardized assessments to evaluate cognitive and academic abilities.
  2. Document clinical observations about classroom behavior and abilities.
  3. Participate in interdisciplinary clinical meetings to provide input and data about clients.
  4. Develop individualized goals and treatment plans based on each client's needs.
  5. Interact with parents to guide them in supporting their children.
  6. Modify instructional material and teaching modalities to meet the needs of each client.
  7. Document client progress.
  8. Collaborate with an interdisciplinary therapy team.
  9. Teach/treat clients in individualized 1:1 and small group settings.
  10. Write individualized reports reflecting the progress of each client.
  11. Participate in clinical meetings to discuss client treatments goals and clinical objectives.
  12. Contribute to clinical team plans for clients.
  13. Document treatment plan progress.


Physical Demands:
This position requires the staff member to engage in various physical activities with clients of varying abilities. This can include non-ambulatory clients to mobile clients that engage in unexpected, unpredictable, and fast movements. Clients range in age from 5 months to adult. Physical activity in this position requires the staff member to engage in movements that include and are not limited to any combination of:


  • Gross Motor:

    • Supine (lying on back)
    • Prone (lying on belly)
    • Sitting- variety of position on floor, stools, low to standard chairs
    • Squatting
    • Bending (at knee and hip)
    • Standing (up to 6-7 hours per day)
    • Walking
    • Running
    • Jumping
    • Climbing
    • Kicking and stopping ball
    • Balance (negotiate busy environment with moving children and equipment)

  • Upper Body:

    • Bilateral hand use (use of both hands)
    • Reaching in variety of planes of motion 45, 90 and 180 degree range of shoulder flexion and abduction)
    • Bending of elbows
    • Wrist extension and flexion
    • Forearm pronation and supination
    • Pulling
    • Pushing
    • Lifting (could be weight of up to non-ambulatory child and therapy equipment)
    • Throwing and catching balls (variety of sizes and weights)
    • Grasping
    • Grabbing
    • Isolated finger movements

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree or higher in the field of education (professional certificate in the area of ESE preferred)
  • 2-year minimum experience working with children, teens, or adults with special needs (or strong interest in doing so)
  • Bilingual (Spanish)
