Position Overview: The Athletic Tutor plays a crucial role in providing academic support across various subjects as required. Compensation is based on the subject matter expertise and prior teaching experience.
Departmental Insights: This position necessitates a strong academic foundation in undergraduate courses across multiple disciplines, including but not limited to Business, Computer Science, Engineering, English, Foreign Languages, Humanities, Social Sciences, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences. The selected candidate must be adept at tutoring course content and guiding students in adhering to academic timelines. Tutors will aid in cultivating essential study habits, organizational skills, and time management techniques. All tutors are expected to effectively review, discuss, and elucidate course materials in a clear and engaging manner, as well as facilitate test preparation sessions. The candidate should be prepared to assist a diverse student population, including new freshmen, continuing students, and international learners. Hourly pay is aligned with educational qualifications and previous teaching or tutoring experience. Experience as a High School Educator or College Instructor/GTA is preferred.
Essential Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree and proficiency in the subject area to be tutored, or a native proficiency in a foreign language where tutoring support is required.
Additional Departmental Qualifications: Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential. A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree is required. Availability for at least two evenings per week (6:30pm-9:30pm) is necessary.
Desirable Qualifications: An advanced degree is preferred. Previous experience in college-level teaching is highly valued. Experience as an elementary school teacher or school counselor is also advantageous.
