Job Title: Probation Parole Officer

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Probation Parole Officer to join our team at the State of Montana. As a Probation Parole Officer, you will play a critical role in managing the correctional population, promoting public safety, and encouraging offenders to make positive life-changing decisions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct pre-sentence investigations and make placement recommendations concerning offenders sentenced to the Department of Corrections.
  • Supervise and counsel offenders, using investigative skills and knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to probation, parole, incarceration, rehabilitation, and treatment programs.
  • Develop and implement rehabilitation and treatment plans, conditions of probation, and recommendations for incarceration or community supervision.
  • Investigate alleged violations of probation or parole, using knowledge of policies and procedures, and testify in district court and information hearings.
  • Collaborate with other criminal justice agencies and community resources to provide support and services to offenders.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree in a related field such as criminology, psychology, social work, or sociology preferred.
  • Successful completion of a 10-week POST Basic Training program and POST Basic Certification required.
  • Ability to work varying schedules, including nights and weekends, and be available 24/7 for emergency situations.
  • Valid Montana driver's license required.
