Position Overview
Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is in search of a Practical Nursing Specialist for their Paoli Primary Care office. This role will operate Monday through Friday, with a rotating Saturday shift as needed based on operational requirements.

The Practical Nursing Specialist delivers routine nursing care to patients who are ill, injured, or require assistance under the supervision of a licensed professional (RN) nurse, nurse practitioner, or physician.

The LPN is involved in the planning, execution, and assessment of nursing care in accordance with the scope of practice defined by the State Board of Nursing and organizational standards.

Additionally, this role supports operations through necessary administrative tasks.

The nurse must exhibit proficiency in caring for patients with moderate to complex health conditions and assist the Site Manager with administrative matters that impact clinical practices within the office, while adhering to the administrative policies and clinical protocols outlined in the policy and procedure manual.

The nurse will report administratively to the Site Manager and Ambulatory Nursing Director regarding nursing practice issues. Flexibility to rotate to other Care Network sites within the designated cluster may be required.
Key Responsibilities

1. Provide and document direct nursing care for assigned patients under the guidance of a registered nurse or physician.
2. Nursing care is directed by physician orders and the established care plan.

Patient responses to care are communicated to a registered nurse or physician for evaluation, intervention, and modification of the care plan.

3. Assist other healthcare personnel in delivering patient care.
4. Participate in maintaining the care environment, including equipment and other resources.
5. Engage in personal professional development by maintaining required competencies and attending educational opportunities. Support the development of other staff and formal learners.
6. Participate in identifying clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and assist in performance improvement initiatives.
7. The LPN may administer medications within their scope of practice and organizational standards only if the following conditions are met: a) the LPN has completed a Board-approved educational program that includes study and supervised clinical practice for administering immunizing agents. b) A written order has been issued by a licensed physician for an individual patient or group of patients, c) the LPN is knowledgeable about health system policies and has met competency training standards.

8. Support clinical activities related to nursing and clinic operations, making recommendations to management for enhancing the quality and effectiveness of nursing care provided.

9. Demonstrate a commitment to patient safety by addressing safety concerns and modifying nursing practices to improve safety. Report errors through established systems and demonstrate shared accountability for safe practices.
10. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements

- High School Diploma / GED Required
- Technical Diploma in Nursing Required
Experience Requirements

- A minimum of two (2) years in the medical field Preferred
- Experience in pediatrics Preferred

- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - issued through an organization that requires hands-on instructor-led psychomotor skills verification (e.g., American Heart Association or Red Cross). - upon hire - Required
