Position Overview
As a Legal Advisor within the Department of the Navy, you will engage with judge advocates affiliated with the Marine Corps Defense Services Organization (DSO), legal experts, and practitioners to facilitate the effective delivery of criminal defense services.

Key Responsibilities
Your role will encompass providing specialized knowledge on litigation across the DSO, including training sessions and case-specific consultations for DSO judge advocates, particularly in cases involving sexual assault and other complex legal matters.

You will extend support to trial defense counsel throughout all phases of case preparation, including:
- Drafting motions
- Preparing expert witnesses
- Formulating trial strategies
- Assisting with post-trial processes
- Offering guidance on professional responsibility issues.

Additionally, you will collaborate with the Chief Defense Counsel of the Marine Corps (CDC) to evaluate and allocate resources, ensuring the DSO maintains its capability to deliver consistent and effective legal representation.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess significant, validated, and recent expertise in military justice or complex civilian criminal litigation as a trial-level attorney. You should demonstrate advanced proficiency in providing authoritative legal advice, training in intricate criminal litigation, and multi-disciplinary representation.

Requirements
To qualify for this position, you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Successfully pass a pre-employment drug test
- Obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance
- Hold a current Attorney license.

This position may involve travel to various locations, including remote or isolated sites, and requires the ability to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended durations.

Experience
Your resume should reflect at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in federal service or comparable experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must include:
- Expertise in litigation
- Support for trial defense counsel
- Comprehensive trial preparation experience
- Advanced multi-disciplinary representation.

Education
A Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association is required. You must also be an active member in good standing of the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. Commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia.

Additional Information
This position is eligible for part-time, substantial, or ad-hoc telework at management's discretion. The successful applicant must maintain professional qualifications at all times as a condition of employment.
